The owner of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado called the Albuquerque Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen from the Valley Area Command.  The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

About an hour after the activation an officer with the Albuquerque Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the Chevrolet was tracked to the area of Gun Club and Coors in the Southwest Area Command.  The Chevrolet was located down a dirt road parked behind a residence.  The offenders were working on the stolen Chevrolet and had its hood opened.  As officers approached, the offender attempted to leave in the Chevrolet and then decided to flee on foot from the scene.  Deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and assisted in the apprehension of the fleeing offender.  The offender was found to be on probation and subsequently booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Officers observed the after-market chrome rims from the stolen Chevrolet were removed and in the process of being affixed to a GMC Sierra.  Officers discovered the GMC was also a reported stolen vehicle.  The Chevrolet and GMC were recovered and towed from the scene for safekeeping.
