The owners of a 2001 BMW 325 contacted the Baltimore City Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the Unit block North Howard Street in Baltimore City. The Baltimore PD Radio dispatched a Central District officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. When the officer was unable to locate the BMW, a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The Baltimore City PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

A short while later detectives from the Regional Auto Theft Team picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and helicopters. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the BMW to the 400 block Fallsway in the east Baltimore area of Baltimore City. At that location, detectives observed the BMW parked and unoccupied. Detectives at this point recovered the BMW and notified the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2001 BMW 325 in March 2001 at Santa Monica BMW in California.
