The owner of a 2004 Chevrolet Trail Blazer contacted the California Highway Patrol to report that their vehicle was stolen by a person he had given a ride to. While the victim left his Chevrolet to enter a local business, the suspect drove away without his permission. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Thirteen (13) minutes after activation officers from the Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Chevrolet from Sunset Blvd and Western Ave to a nearby parking lot of a large market. There they tracked and located the Chevrolet Trail Blazer parked containing one male adult. As they were waiting for back up, they observed the rear lights come on and deployed on the Chevrolet taking the male driver into custody without further incident. The suspect refused to cooperate with the arresting officers and was later booked for driving a motor vehicle without owner’ permission in addition to possession of Methamphetamine.

The undamaged Chevrolet was stored for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Trail Blazer in February 2009 at Magnusson’s Auburn Toyota in California.
