The registered owner of a 2002 Lincoln Navigator called the Baldwin Park Police Department, California, to report their vehicle was stolen. The owner said she suspected her ex-boyfriend stole the Lincoln and was possibly on his way to New Mexico or Texas.
The Baldwin Park PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lincoln.

Within a short time after the activation, and over 700 miles from the original theft location, a Sergeant with the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department was driving to briefing when he picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Lincoln with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the Lincoln was tracked to the area of Porter Drive and US 70. The Sergeant located the Lincoln parked in a handicap parking space at an apartment complex parking lot.

The DASO Sergeant requested additional units into the area to assist in the recovery of the stolen Lincoln. Deputies from DASO arrived on scene along with officers from the Las Cruces Police Department and they set up surveillance on the Lincoln to see if someone would return to the vehicle. After several hours of surveillance the Sergeant requested a tow truck to the scene to recover and remove the Lincoln. After the tow truck began to load the Lincoln, a male subject approached asking why his Lincoln was being towed. This subject was taken into custody and identified as the possible named suspect of the original theft.

The Lincoln was towed from the scene for safekeeping and the suspect was transported to the DASO station for further investigation. Detectives from DASO are working with detectives from Baldwin Park PD on this caper.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Lincoln Navigator in April 2002 at Galpin Jaguar Lincoln Volvo in Van Nuys, California.
