The owners of a 2008 Mercedes Benz CLK contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The owners had left the Mercedes with the engine running in front of their residence. The son went to check on the Mercedes and observed the suspect driving away.

The LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes Benz.

A short later, the LAPD “Air 10” flight officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their aircraft and patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight officers tracked the Mercedes to the area of Oxnard and Tujunga. The LAPD North Hollywood patrol officers (same officers who took the original crime report) responded to the location and observed a male matching the description of the suspect who took the stolen Mercedes standing next to another vehicle. The officers detained the person and requested that other officers transport the witness to their location for a field show up. The witness positively identified the suspect as the one who stole the Mercedes. The suspect was taken into custody for auto theft related charges without incident.

The Mercedes was released to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes Benz in August 2007 at Keyes European Mercedes in Van Nuys, California.
