The owners of a 2000 Honda Civic contacted the California Highway Patrol Tracy Area to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim discovered the Honda was stolen when they returned to the parking lot after shopping.
The CHP verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Less than 30 minutes later deputies from the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Honda to a residence in the 600 block of John Street in Modesto. The deputies observed a Honda under a tarp in the front yard. Deputies checked this vehicle and determined it wasn’t the stolen Honda. After questioning the persons at the residence and gaining permission they found the stolen Honda in the back yard. It was determined the parts from the stolen Honda were going to be used to rebuild the Honda in the front yard.

A suspect was determined through questioning and he was arrested for auto theft and receiving stolen property. He also had a felony no bail warrant for a prior auto theft.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in November 2002 at Shamrock Ford in Dublin, California.
