The owners of a 2000 Honda Civic contacted the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Central Station to report that their vehicle was stolen from in front of their home sometime during the night time hours by unknown suspects.  Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A short while later a detective from the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task force (SANCATT) picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detective tracked the Honda to the area of Pacific Ave and Barton Rd. where he observed the Honda containing four individuals.  The detective began following the Honda while requesting other SANCATT detectives to respond.  The Honda turned into an apartment complex at which time the driver and front passenger fled from the vehicle.  Both suspects were apprehended by the detectives and the rear passengers were detained by a San Bernardino Police Department officer.  It was learned that the driver was a “Parolee at Large” with an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  Both front passengers were later booked for the theft of the Honda and warrant for the driver.  The rear passengers were released as they had only been offered a ride just prior to the vehicle stop. The Honda Civic was later released to the owners with only ignition damage.  Case submitted to the Deputy District Attorney for felony filing.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in October 2000 at by Scott Robinson Honda in Torrance, California.
