The manager of a company received a LoJack Early Warning notification that advised them that their 2007 GMC 4500 stake truck had been moved without their authorization. The manager verified that their vehicle was indeed stolen and contacted the Miramar Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers. This routine police procedure automatically transmits an activation command to the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery transponder concealed in the stake truck to begin broadcasting its signal.

The next morning an Auto Theft Task Force investigator picked up the silent LoJack signal emanating from the stolen GMC 4500 stake truck on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The investigator began tracking the stolen GMC by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The investigator, along with their backup from the Miami-Dade Police Department, located the GMC parked outside of a duplex apartment near N.W. 30th Avenue and 59th Street. At the recovery scene it was discovered that the thief compromised the ignition system. They removed the steering wheel since it had a steering wheel locking device attached to it as well as a chain and lock on it and replaced it with a drivable steering wheel. The stake truck was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.
