The owners of a 1998 Honda Civic contacted the Pomona Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen.   Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A short while later, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Air-8 flight deputies picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda at the 10 Freeway and Azusa with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they tracked the Honda to the Eastland Shopping Mall at Barranca and the 10 Freeway and observed the vehicle driving thru the parking lot.  Air-8 contacted the West Covina Police Department and alerted them to the tracking.  The West Covina PD officers responded to the area and also picked up the LoJack signal.  Air-8 radioed that the Honda had just pulled into a parking space and directed the ground unit to that location.  The West Covina PD officers contacted the driver/suspect taking her into custody without further incident.   The driver/suspect, was later booked for driving a motor vehicle without owner’s consent. The Honda was later stored for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in April 1998 at Robertson Honda in North Hollywood, California.
