The owners of a 2007 Honda Civic contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to report their vehicle was stolen.

The OCSD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Only six minutes later officers from the Buena Park Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Honda to a retail shopping complex with restaurants and a hotel.  The officers found the Honda parked but not occupied.  A surveillance of the Honda was initiated utilizing a detective in an unmarked police vehicle.  About 20 minutes later a subject was seen walking from the hotel and entered the driver door of the stolen Honda.  Before the subject could drive off patrol vehicles surrounded the stolen Honda. The suspect was detained and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Inside the Honda the officers also found a scale commonly used to weigh illegal drugs.  The officers went to the suspect’s hotel room and found more evidence indicating the suspect was involved in drug sales.  The suspect was arrested and the Honda was recovered.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in September 2006 at Carson Honda in California.
