The owners of a 2003 GMC Yukon contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to report their vehicle was stolen.

The LASD Century station verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC Yukon.

Only 25 minutes later deputies from the LASD Century station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen GMC with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the GMC to 60th street and Central Avenue. The GMC was traveling on 60th Street with a male driver and several passengers. The deputies followed the GMC until an airship and assisting patrol vehicles could arrive. Once the deputies had sufficient assistance they conducted a traffic stop on the stolen GMC. The deputies detained and questioned the driver. The driver claimed he was lent the GMC by a mechanic friend. Upon further questioning the driver was unable to provide a location, name or other information regarding the “friend.” The deputies also found a shaved key in the ignition and three more shaved keys inside the GMC. The deputies also found the driver to be in possession of heroin and methamphetamine. The driver was arrested and the passengers were released as they were unaware the GMC was stolen. The owner of the GMC was called to the scene and his undamaged vehicle was returned to him.

The LoJack® System was installed in the GMC Yukon in February 2007 at Carmax in Buena Park, California.
