The owners of a 2004 BMW contacted the Long Beach Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen.

The LBPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

A short later, the Los Angeles Police Department Foothill patrol officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the BMW to the area of the 11000 block of Penrose Street. The officers conducted a felony traffic stop and took the suspect into custody for auto theft related charges without incident.

The BMW was impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the BMW in February 2004 at Nick Alexander Imports in Los Angeles, California.
