The owners of a 2008 Mercedes S 500 contacted the Beverly Hills Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

A short while later officers from the Pasadena Police Department had just recovered two unrelated stolen vehicles reported from San Marino, California, when they picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The officers ran a check on the signal from the stolen Mercedes thinking it may have just been entered as one of the two cars they had just recovered and learned it belonged to the Mercedes stolen from Beverly Hills, California.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the silent signal to the general area of the 1400 block of North Marengo Ave and relayed that information to other area units.

An area officer responded to the broadcast and observed the stolen Mercedes as it passed his vehicle.  The officer confirmed the license plate and began following the stolen Mercedes until the other unit arrived.  As the Mercedes reached Garfield Ave it pulled to the curb in front of a residence.  Officers deployed on the Mercedes taking the suspect into custody without further incident. The officers contacted the Beverly Hills PD and advised them of the circumstances.  The Beverly Hills PD responded and assumed the investigation taking the suspect back to their City. The Mercedes was stored and later released to the victim after processing.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes S 500 in July 2007 at WI Simonson Mercedes Benz in Santa Monica, California.
