The owners of a 1995 Nissan Altima contacted the Ontario Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

A short while later deputies from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and Victorville City Police Department were returning from a training day driving a LoJack equipped patrol vehicle and as they drove thru the Fontana City area picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Nissan to a restaurant parking lot at Citrus Ave and San Bernardino where they located the vehicle occupied by one adult. Since these deputies were in plain clothes, a request for a marked unit from the San Bernardino SD Fontana station was made.  When the back-up arrived, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.  The field investigation resulted in the suspect admitting he had just purchased the Nissan for $400.00 from an unknown subject.  The deputies contacted the owner of the Nissan and learned the vehicle had been stolen from his Mother’s home and no one sold the vehicle.  The suspect was arrested and booked for felony possession of a stolen vehicle.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Altima in January 2000 via Direct Sales.
