The owners of a 2001 Mercedes-Benz contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Topanga Division to report that their vehicle was stolen.

The LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

Twenty-Six (26) minutes later, the LAPD Foothill patrol officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mercedes to the area of the 10300 block of Wilsey Street. The officers conducted a felony traffic stop and took the suspect into custody for auto theft related charges without incident.

The Mercedes was impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes-Benz in October 2002 at Penske Motorcars Mercedes in West Covina, California.
