The owner of a 2001 Nissan Maxima contacted the Bakersfield Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen. The Bakersfield PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

Later in the day an officer from the Bakersfield PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in police vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked and located the Nissan near the 2700 block of Eye Street in downtown Bakersfield. The Nissan was found to be occupied by a male and female adult. Both were detained and later arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.

The Nissan was recovered intact and undamaged; it was released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in May 2001 by Metro Nissan in Montclair, California.
