The owners of a 2007 Nissan Xterra contacted the Los Angeles Police Department 77th St Division to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

A short while later the LAPD Air-18 flight officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air-18 tracked the Nissan to the area of Slauson Ave and Western Ave and located the vehicle parked and unoccupied.
Information was given to ground units from the 77th St Division who responded and set up containment. A short time later a female was observed entering the Nissan and drove off. Officers deployed and affected a felony traffic stop taking the driver into custody without further incident. The suspect was later booked for driving a vehicle without owner’s consent, a felony. The undamaged Nissan was later released to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Xterra in February 2010 by Gardena Nissan in California.
