The owners of a 1995 Acura Integra contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Acura.

A short while later officers from the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Acura with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officers then notified the LAPD Air-3 flight officers of the LoJack “Hit.” Air-3 responded and also picked up the LoJack “Hit” and began tracking the Acura onto the I-5 Freeway and located the vehicle south bound at Cesar Chavez off ramp. Air-3 advised the ground unit who responded and when the units caught up to the Acura, a “High Risk” stop was initiated at Indiana St. The driver complied with the officers demands and was detained without further incident. When questioned as to how the driver obtained the Acura, he told the ground units he had purchased the vehicle for $300.00, however, could not produce any bill of sale. Officers found a set of “Shaved Keys” commonly used to drive and steal vehicles and also found another set of license plates belonging to another Acura. Investigation is underway to see if the license plates were stolen from another city. The suspect was later booked for driving a motor vehicle without owner’s permission, a Felony Charge.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Acura Integra in April 1995 by Glendale Acura in California.
