The owner of a 2006 Mercedes Benz E500 contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen.  The owner went to his church to check the doors and the grounds while leaving the keys in the ignition and the door unlocked.  When the owner returned he found his Mercedes had been stolen.  The owner checked the church surveillance video and observed a male subject take off in his Mercedes along with personal property left inside the vehicle.  The LVMPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

Within an hour of the activation, officers with the LVMPD and the VIPER team picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mercedes to a parking structure.  The VIPER team set up surveillance on the stolen Mercedes in hopes of capturing the offender.  The VIPER team’s diligence proved fruitful in the apprehension of one subject.  The subject was taken into custody stating she borrowed the Mercedes from a male subject.  The VIPER team has taken over the investigation and is attempting to locate the victim’s stolen property.  The Mercedes was released to the owner at the recovery scene.
