The owners of a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro contacted the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department in the city of Oakley to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim stated sometime during the night the Camaro was stolen from in front of their residence.

The Contra Costa SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Camaro.

A short while later, officers from the East Bay Regional Parks Police Air Operations Air 5, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camaro with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Camaro to an affluent neighborhood in the Oakland Hills, observed it parked on the street and unattended. The air unit called for ground units and members of the auto theft task force responded and conducted surveillance in hopes of catching the thief. After several hours and no activity, the Camaro was recovered and towed for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Camaro in July 2015 by Livermore Toyota in California.
