The owner of a 2006 Audi A8 contacted the Hammond Police Department, Indiana, to report that their vehicle was stolen in a carjacking, offender armed with a handgun.  The Hammond PD verified the facts as presented and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Audi A8.

The Illinois State Police and the Chicago Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Audi with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Chicago PD located the Audi parked in a garage on the 127th block of S. Lowe Ave in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood on the far south side and set up surveillance.  A suspect was observed entering the Audi and taken into custody. Suspect admitted knowledge of the Audi being stolen and the manner in which it was taken but denied involvement in the carjacking. During on scene interview offender provided police with the suspect information for two offenders wanted in the commission of the carjacking. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.  The Chicago PD and Hammond PD investigation into this stolen vehicle continues.

Due to LoJack being installed in this Audi the owner received his vehicle back with no damage before it could be chopped, cloned, or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Audi A8 in October 2006 by Pacific Audi in Torrance, California.
