The owner of a 2005 Honda Accord contacted the Fresno Police Department to report that her vehicle was stolen from her apartment complex. The Fresno PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

About 90 minutes later, a deputy from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputy tracked the Honda to the parking lot of an apartment complex near Peach and McKinley Avenues in east Fresno. The deputy approached the Honda and found that an adult male suspect was seated in a reclined position in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, sleeping. The stereo was on and the windows were rolled down. The deputy woke the suspect up and he immediately became uncooperative and combative. An assisting deputy and his canine partner arrived and the suspect promptly calmed down. The suspect was arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. He claimed that he had purchased the Honda off of Craigslist for $1000 but could provide neither documents of the sale nor any identifying information about the seller.

The Honda was recovered intact and undamaged; it was released to the owner at the scene. The Honda owner, a single mother with a small child was extremely happy that her car had been recovered so quickly. She was unaware that there was a LoJack system in her Honda.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda at the request of the original owner in April 2005 by Clawson Honda in Fresno, California.
