The owners of a 2003 Ford Mustang contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The owner’s friend took the Mustang without permission.

Deputies from the SBSD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

A short time later, patrol deputies from the SBSD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Ford to the area of Hinton and Peach. The deputies, along with other units, were able to pinpoint the location of the stolen vehicle to a garage in the 18200 block of Hinton. Deputies conducted an investigation at the scene. The named suspect was located and taken into custody for auto theft and firearms related charges without incident.

The Ford was impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Mustang in May 2003 by Moss Bros. Ford in Colton, CA.
