The owners of a Subaru XV Crosstrek contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Division to report that their vehicle was stolen sometime during the night from their residence. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Subaru.

A short while later officers from the Alhambra Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Subaru with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they tracked the Subaru to a parking lot in the 300 block of S. Chapel Avenue and located the unoccupied vehicle in the lot. Several male individuals were observed standing in the area so it was decided to contact detectives and have them respond with unmarked vehicles to set up surveillance.  After a short surveillance, one subject was seen looking up and down the street and appeared to relay this to another subject who then entered the Subaru and began to drive off.  At this time assisting officers deployed on the Subaru and as they attempted to stop it, the driver foot bailed causing the vehicle to roll back bumping a wall.  A second suspect fled from the passenger side.  Both suspects were soon apprehended by the assisting units and later booked for the vehicle theft and resisting arrest. It was also determined that both suspects were active “Gang” members. Felony charges were later filed against both males by the District Attorney.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Subaru XV Crosstrek in November 2014 by Glendale Mitsubishi in California.
