The owners of a Honda Accord contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen.  Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A short while later the Los Angeles SD Air-7 flight deputies picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they tracked the Honda to the 16000 block of Aimsworth St spotting the vehicle in the rear yard. As they arrived they noted a vehicle leaving the property and directed ground units from the LASD to stop the vehicle.  Air-7 notified Los Angeles Police Department Air 18 flight officers of the location and remained until relieved by Air-18.  The LAPD Officers arrived and assumed the investigation.  The suspect who had been stopped was arrested and taken to the Police Station for further investigation.  Another vehicle was seen backing out of the property and the occupants were detained.  They informed the Detectives from Commercial Crimes unit that the subject who had left earlier was the person who apparently brought the Honda to the location and who had removed the catalytic converter. Follow up investigation by BADCAT Detectives resulted in the primary suspect admitting he had stripped the car for money and would sell the catalytic converter.  This suspect was later booked for a “Chop Shop” violation.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in August 1995 by Harbor City Honda in California.
