The owners of a 2009 Honda Civic contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Within 8 minutes from activation an officer from the LAPD 77th St Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the Honda from Florence Ave and Figueroa Street to a parking lot on Figueroa St and Gage Ave.  As she entered the parking lot, the officer observed the stolen Honda headed directly toward her vehicle.  As the stolen Honda approached, the suspect driver slowed and stated “sorry officer that I blocked your car,” and proceeded past the Police vehicle into a parking spot.  Apparently the suspect parked the stolen Honda so close to the car next to his driver’s side that he blocked himself in the car preventing him from exiting.  Assisting officers arrived and the driver and female passenger were taken into custody.  At that time the suspect driver yelled to the officer that his passenger made him drive the car. The female was released at the scene and the driver was booked for vehicle theft.  Felony charges were filed against the driver.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in December 2008 by Sierra Auto Cars in Monrovia, California.
