The owners of a 2008 Honda Civic contacted the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen.  Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Within 7 minutes after activation, deputies from the San Bernardino SD Central Station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they tracked the Honda to the 1200 block of Date St where the vehicle was observed pulling out of a driveway containing two males and two females.  The deputy followed the Honda requesting back up. Assisting deputies and detectives from SANCATT taskforce were requested. As the Honda reached a signal at Lynwood, the female driver ran the light and accelerated.  Finally the Honda began to slow and stopped in the 1900 block of Marshall Blvd.  Deputies requested the occupants to raise their hands of which three complied.  The passenger in the right front did not immediately comply and was making furtive movements.  Commands to comply were given several times at which point, the suspect threw out a Ruger 22 rifle (later found to be fully loaded with a 30 round magazine) out of the passenger window and surrendered.  All suspects were taken into custody.  The investigation revealed that the male suspects had planned to commit armed robberies, however were thwarted by the traffic stop.  It was also learned that the passenger in the right front who had the weapon had planned to possibly shoot it out with the deputies, however was talked out of it by his girlfriend. All suspects were booked on various felonies and the Honda was released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in July 1998 by Spreen Honda in Loma Linda, CA.
