Lithia Motors of Fresno installed a LoJack tracking device in this vehicle as part of a preinstall program. The program enhances sales and also provides an added measure of asset security while vehicles are on the dealership lot.

The owner of this Chevrolet contacted the Fresno Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from in front of his residence. The Fresno PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Just 15 minutes after the police entered the Chevrolet, an officer with the Fresno PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the Chevrolet to the vicinity of McKinley and Blackstone avenues in central Fresno. The Chevrolet was found unoccupied, in the parking lot of a strip mall. Investigators from Fresno HEAT, the Fresno County auto theft task force initiated surveillance of the Chevrolet. A short time later, an adult male approached, entered the Chevrolet and attempted to drive away. Investigators converged upon the Chevrolet and took the suspect into custody before he could drive away. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. During questioning the suspect told investigators that he had burglarized this Chevrolet and while taking property, found a spare key which he used to steal the vehicle.

The Chevrolet was recovered intact and undamaged; it was released to the owner at the scene. The owner commented to the investigators that he was glad he purchased the LoJack system for his Chevrolet as it resulted in a quick recovery without damage to his vehicle.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet in March 2015 by Lithia Motors of Fresno, California.
