The owners of a Subaru Tribute contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Temple station to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence.  Apparently the Subaru was not locked and a spare ignition key was left in the glove compartment.  Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Subaru.

Within less than 20 minutes officers from the Monterey Park Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Subaru with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Subaru to the 300 block of Sefton Avenue, located the vehicle parked and unoccupied.  The patrol units backed off and Detectives in under cover units established surveillance.  Within 20 minutes a male subject approached the Subaru, opened the driver’s door and entered. Detectives and assisting units deployed on the stolen Subaru as it was in the process of leaving and detained the suspect.  During the investigation, the ignition key was found in his possession as well as Narcotics (Meth).  He was arrested and later booked for driving a motor vehicle without owner’s consent along with Narcotics charges.  The undamaged Subaru was later released to the happy owner.  Felony charges were filed against the suspect.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Subaru Tribute in September 2013 by Puente Hills Subaru in California.
