The owners of a 2004 Toyota 4Runner contacted the Oak Park Police Department, a near west suburb of Chicago, to report that their vehicle was stolen from the 600 block of N Oak Park Ave. The Oak Park PD responded to the scene and after verifying facts as presented entered the vehicle information into state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

The Chicago Police Department from the Gresham District picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the signal emanating from the stolen Toyota, officers located it in the 7800 block of S. Laflin Ave in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood. A witness in the area observed a young man walk away from the Toyota. Responding officers were provided with suspect information and were able to tie a name to the description and a suspect was determined.  The Chicago PD towed the Toyota for Oak Park PD who will continue the investigation with processing the recovered stolen vehicle.

The Toyota 4Runner was recovered less than three hours after it was stolen. The Toyota was returned to a grateful owner before it could be damaged, stripped, or used in a crime.
