The owner of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Ontario Police Department to report that her vehicle was stolen for the second time since September 2014 by a relative. Apparently the suspect had come to the victim’s place of work and asked for money.  When refused, he removed the vehicle keys from the victim’s purse when she was not looking and exited the business.  The suspect was seen minutes later driving off in the Chevrolet Silverado.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Silverado.

A short while later deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department East LA Station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet Silverado with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the LASD Air-7 assisting ground units and tracked the Chevrolet to 5th St and Eastern Ave where Air-7 observed the vehicle and saw a male exiting the vehicle.  Units rolled to that area as Air-7 watched the suspect standing next to the Chevrolet then observed him enter the driver’s side.  At that point, deputies arrived and deployed on the Chevrolet detaining the suspect.  A field investigation revealed that the suspect was in fact the named suspect who stole the Chevrolet Silverado.  The suspect admitted taking the truck and also had an outstanding warrant for the prior vehicle theft of the same vehicle.  He was later booked for vehicle theft.  Deputies discovered a large amount of cash hidden in the truck and per the victim, it belonged to her.  The Chevrolet was stored for safe keeping and the cash was released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in October 2012 by Mountain View Chevrolet in Upland, California.
