The owner of a 2003 Mercedes 420 contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Compton Station to report that his vehicle was stolen by a female who has stolen his keys, wallet and phone. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

A short while later officers from the Los Angeles Police Department Newton Division were contacted by Los Angeles SD Air-7 indicating they picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air-7tracked the Mercedes to 60th St between San Pedro St and Avalon Blvd. The LAPD units responded to that area and observed the Mercedes parked in a driveway.  Officers arrived and observed a female matching the description next to the Mercedes.  While setting up a containment plan, the Mercedes pulled out containing two adult females. Officers began deploying into the area waiting for Airship assistance and when they activated their emergency lights, the female driver sped off resulting in a pursuit.  The pursuit continued for a while then was called off due to high speeds.  The Airship picked up the Mercedes and followed, broadcasting the directions to ground units.  The incident terminated when the driver collided with another vehicle.  Both females were taken into custody without further incident.  The female driver was later booked for vehicle theft, felony evading and other vehicle code violations. The passenger was released at the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes in May 2006 by Mercedes of Laguna Niguel, CA.
