The owners of a 2004 Toyota Corolla contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to report their vehicle was stolen.

The LASD-Compton verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later the LASD Air 8 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air 8 tracked the Toyota as it was traveling northbound on Alameda Street in the city of Compton.  Air 8 broadcast this information to LASD patrol officers.  Deputies from LASD-Century station located the stolen Toyota traveling on Willowbrook and El Segundo Boulevard.  The patrol deputies pulled in behind the Toyota and confirmed the license plate belonged to the stolen Toyota.  The Toyota stopped on Willowbrook.  The driver and sole occupant was detained and questioned.  The driver told the deputies he got the Toyota from a “friend” and the friend was a heavy drug user.  The driver was arrested and the Toyota was recovered without damage.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Corolla in January 2004 by Toyota Central in Los Angeles, California.
