The owners of a 2005 Scion XA contacted the Merced Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence during the night. The Merced PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Scion.

Just 15 minutes after the vehicle was entered into the stolen vehicle system, an officer from the Merced PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Scion with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the Scion to a residential area near downtown Merced. The Scion was found abandoned on the side of the road. It had been abandoned less than a mile from the owner’s residence.

The Scion was recovered intact and undamaged; it was released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Scion in August of 2005 at Folsom Lake Toyota in Folsom, California.
