The owner of a 2009 Mini Cooper contacted the San Diego Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen in the city of San Diego.

The San Diego PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mini.

A while later deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mini Cooper with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Mini Cooper to a residential area near Broadview and Innsdale in Spring Valley.  The deputies made contact with the residents that were inside a recreational vehicle.  The male suspect who was on bail for a recent felony admitted to driving the Mini Cooper.  The driver was taken into custody for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and possession of controlled substance.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mini Cooper in April 2014 at Car Max in Kearny Mesa, California.
