The owners of a 2014 Ford Fusion contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen for a second time within three days. A set of the vehicle keys were stolen with the first theft.

The LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

A short time later, the LAPD air unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight officers tracked the Ford to the area of Shelton and Remick. The Ford had paper plates. Narcotic officers responded to the location and observed the Ford parked at a local park. The suspect was observed exiting the Ford and entering the restroom. The officers followed the suspect and took him into custody for auto theft related charges. The suspect had dumped the keys into the toilet. The keys were then lost.

The Ford was impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford in April 2014 at Galpin Ford in North Hills, California.
