The owners of a 2005 Dodge Stratus contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Marina Del Rey Station to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects.  Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge.

Within minutes the Los Angeles Police Department Air-18 flight officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air-18 flight officers tracked the Dodge to Vernon and Main notifying ground units of the LoJack hit.  Officers from the LAPD Newton division responded to the area and observed the Dodge in a parking lot setting up surveillance on the vehicle.  Within a short time, a suspect was observed entering the Dodge and exited the property. As officers were deploying, the Dodge sped up, then made a U-turn hitting a curb.  The driver fled on from the Dodge and a foot pursuit ensued.  The driver was apprehended shortly and taken into custody without further incident.  The passenger apparently remained inside the stolen Dodge when the driver fled and he was later released.  The driver was booked for driving a motor vehicle without owner’s consent.  The recovered Dodge was stored for safe keeping and later released to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Stratus in November 2007 at Volvo of Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California.
