The owners of a 2009 Hyundai Sonata contacted the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen in the city of San Diego.

The San Diego County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Hyundai.

A short while later, officers from the San Diego Police Department Air Unit (ABLE) picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Hyundai with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Hyundai to a residential neighborhood. ABLE directed ground units to the area near the 3100 block of Highland Avenue where the Hyundai was found abandoned.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Hyundai in August 2009 at Auto Land #24 Chula Vista, in California.
