The owners of a 2014 Toyota Prius called the Hayward Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from a shopping mall parking lot in Hayward, California.

The Hayward PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota. Less than an hour later officers from the Fremont Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Prius with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Prius to a side street in Fremont. The undamaged Prius was abandoned on the street. The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Prius in May 2014 at Livermore Toyota in Livermore, CA.
