The owner of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to report his vehicle was stolen.  The owner had just returned home and parked his Chevrolet in his driveway.  The owner went into his residence and walked back outside a short time later.  When he exited his home he saw that his Chevrolet had been stolen.

The LASD Century verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

After taking the original theft report, and driving a short distance from the victim’s residence, the same deputies  picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the LASD Century deputies tracked the Chevrolet to an alley in the 2000 block of 77th Street in Los Angeles.  As the deputies drove toward the stolen Chevrolet Silverado they saw a male exit the driver door with a GPS, radio, black case and checkbook.  A female exited the front passenger door.  Both subjects were detained.  Upon questioning, the female admitted to taking the Chevrolet and meeting up with the male driver shortly after taking the vehicle.  The deputies contacted the resident where the Chevrolet was found parked in the rear driveway.  The resident said he had received a call from the driver (male suspect) before they arrived, asking if he could park a truck in his driveway.  The resident told him he could as long as the vehicle was not stolen.

The victim was brought to the recovery scene and identified the items the driver was carrying as belonging to him.  The Chevrolet was returned to its owner.

Both detained subjects were arrested.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in May 2004 at Maurice J Sopp-Son Chevrolet in Bell, California.
