The owners of a 2012 Honda Civic contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects.

The LAPD 77th St Division officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A short while later the LAPD flight officers from the Air Support Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the helicopter tracked the Honda to the area of 63rd St and Crenshaw Blvd alerting ground units from the LAPD 77th St Division. Responding units also picked up the LoJack “Hit” and observed the stolen Honda pulling into a car wash in the 6400 block of West St. The officers waited for a backup unit as three subjects had been observed.  Once the backup unit arrived, the stolen Honda exited the car wash and was stopped by the officers.  Two adults and one juvenile were detained.  During the investigation, the driver, a female, was arrested and later booked for driving a motor vehicle without owners permission, the male adult released and the juvenile was detained on an outstanding “No Bail” juvenile arrest warrant. The undamaged Honda was later released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in December 2012 at Celebrity Honda in Los Angeles, California.
