The owner of this Ford F150 contacted the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and reported that vehicle had been stolen. A description of a female suspect was given to the San Bernardine SD deputies on the initial report. The deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford truck.

Within less than one hour from the activation, flight deputies in Air- 40 King 6 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight deputies tracked the Ford to the 15 Freeway and Stoddard Wells area and alerted ground units of the tracking.  Ground units from Victorville city, and Victor Valley responded to the area and located the Ford parked in a riverbed in a homeless encampment. Four individuals were contacted and eventually arrested.  One of them was the female described in the initial report.  Charges ranged from possession of drugs and driving a motor vehicle without owner’s consent.  Investigation is pending by station detectives.  The Ford was later returned to its owner.

The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Ford in May 1996 at Board Ford in Whittier, California.
