The owner of a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to report that his vehicle was stolen by a known suspect. The LASD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chrysler.

Less than 90 minutes after the LoJack was activated and 100 miles to the north, a deputy from the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chrysler with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in police vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputy tracked the moving Chrysler to the vicinity of Ming and P streets in downtown Bakersfield. The deputy spotted the occupied Chrysler at a gas station. Upon the arrival of assisting units, the deputies made contact with the four occupants of the Chrysler. Subsequent investigation revealed that the female juvenile driver was the identified suspect in the original theft. The passengers were not aware that the Chrysler had been reported stolen. The female suspect was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and driving without a license. The three remaining occupants of the Chrysler were released without charges and were sent on their way.  The Chrysler was recovered intact and undamaged; it was stored pending release to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chrysler in October 2007 at Long Beach Chrysler Jeep in California.
