The owners of a 2009 Mercedes CLS550 discovered that their car was stolen from a parking lot in downtown Oakland, California.
The Oakland Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.
20 minutes later the Oakland PD and an East Bay Regional Parks Police Helicopter picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Oakland PD officers with the assistance of the Police Helicopter located the stolen Mercedes 2 miles from where it was stolen in Oakland. The Mercedes was abandoned on the street. The owners of the Mercedes were notified of their vehicle’s recovery and it was released to them in the field.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2009 Mercedes in April 2009 at Mercedes of Beverly Hills in California.
