The owner of a Hummer H2 contacted the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department to report that his vehicle was stolen in the city of Carson.

The Los Angeles County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Hummer.

Within 3 minutes, an Investigator from Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail (RAID) picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Hummer with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Investigator tracked the Hummer to the area of Etiwanda and Jurupa Road.  The Hummer was followed for a short distance and a traffic stop was made.  The Hummer was inspected and the investigator determined the vehicle identification number was altered and VIN switched.  Further investigation revealed the suspect was being investigated by the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force with possibly 30 other stolen vehicles. Search warrants were obtained that resulted in the recovery of three other stolen vehicles, a 2008 Hummer H3, 2006 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.  The suspect was arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.  The investigation is ongoing.
