Vehicle:            2003 Mercedes SLK
Activation:        Long Beach Police Department
Recovery:         Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Lakewood Hawaiian Gardens
Dealership:       Mercedes Benz of Anaheim California
The owners of a Mercedes SLK contacted the Long Beach Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen.

The Long Beach PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

A short while later deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Lakewood picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Mercedes to the area of Carson Street and Norwalk Blvd., in the city of Hawaiian Gardens.  The deputies were searching for the Mercedes when they saw it exit a parking lot and turn onto Carson Boulevard.  The deputies only saw one occupant in the Mercedes.  The deputies followed the Mercedes for a short distance until assisting deputies could arrive and then a felony vehicle stop was conducted.  The subject driving the Mercedes told the deputies he “borrowed it from a friend” but was unable to provide contact information for the “friend.”  The deputies contacted the owner of the Mercedes and he stated he did not know the driver.  The driver of the Mercedes was arrested and the Mercedes was recovered undamaged.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes SLK in January 2003.
