The  owner of a 1991 Lexus contacted the Bakersfield office of the California Highway Patrol to report that his vehicle was stolen. The California Highway Patrol verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lexus.

About five hours later a deputy with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack  signal from the stolen Lexus with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in police vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputy tracked the vehicle to downtown Arvin. The deputy spotted the occupied vehicle and attempted an enforcement stop. The suspect immediately pulled over, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect was pursued on foot and ultimately taken into custody a short distance away. The vehicle was recovered intact and undamaged; it was stored pending release to the owner. The adult male suspect was later booked in jail for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
