The owners of a Lincoln Navigator contacted the LASD Lakewood station to report their vehicle was stolen from the front of their residence.

LASD Lakewood verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lincoln.

Only 21 minutes later an Airship from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department picked up the silent LoJack® homing signals from the stolen Lincoln with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the LASD airship tracked the vehicle to the area of a park in the 15000 block of Downey Avenue in Paramount.  The airship broadcast this information and had patrol deputies respond to the area.  A patrol deputy arrived in the area and located the vehicle traveling westbound on Jefferson Avenue.  The patrol deputy followed the vehicle, which had six occupants, until assisting deputies arrived.  The vehicle turned into a gas station where the vehicle was stopped and the passengers were detained.   Upon investigation the deputies determined one of the passengers was responsible for the theft of the vehicle and was subsequently arrested.

The LoJack®System was installed in the Lincoln Navigator in July 2004.
