The owners of a Mazda RX8 contacted the Costa Mesa Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence.   Costa Mesa PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mazda RX8.

Minutes later, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack® homing signals from the stolen Mazda with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The deputy that picked up the signal broadcast the stolen information and requested additional deputies respond to the area of Alicia Parkway and the Interstate 5 Freeway. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the vehicle to a parking lot in the area. They found the vehicle parked and occupied by a female driver.  The deputies detained the female and upon questioning they arrested her for receiving stolen property.

The LoJack®System was installed in the Mazda RX8 in August 2003.
