The owner of a 2007 Lexus IS-250 contacted the Chino California Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from the residence following a domestic violence incident between their daughter and her boyfriend. Police were also told that the daughter was forcibly removed from the residence during the course of this incident. Chino PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, along with the information on the possible kidnapping, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lexus IS-250.

Shortly after after being activated, Ontario PD’s air unit picked up the silent signals from the LoJack System installed in the stolen Lexus on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their aircraft. An area-wide broadcast was initiated that they were tracking the kidnap vehicles’ signal. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the flight crew tracked the moving signal with the assistance of other Chino and Ontario PD ground units to the westbound 60 Freeway. The stolen Lexus was observed W/B at Haven Avenue and responding ground units conducted a felony vehicle stop at Ramona Avenue, in the City of Chino. Both the male suspect driver and girlfriend (possible kidnap victim) were detained without incident.

It was determined in the investigation that the male suspect had implied consent to use the vehicle at any time, and the girlfriend refused any prosecution for kidnap, indicating that this incident was all a big misunderstanding. The male suspect was arrested and booked on Domestic Violence charges. The undamaged vehicle was released back to the owner in the field. The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus IS-250 at Crown Lexus Ontario, CA. on 12-07-2006
